Buildings with a high degree of variability in occupancy rates and patterns may find it particularly difficult to establish consumption rates. In these cases, it may be especially important to pair calculations of normal consumption (e.g., gallons per person per day, gallons per hour, etc.) with also routinely looking for physical evidence of leaks. There is reasonable evidence that --particularly in buildings without substantial irrigated landscaping-- that water consumption is more highly correlated to occupancy than energy consumption is.

Our building has a lot of variation in occupancy over the course of the year. How should we approach leak detection?
